African American Studies, with a primary field in History
Emily A. Owens is a doctoral candidate in the Department of African and African American Studies, with a primary field in History. She holds a joint A.B. with honors in Studies of Women, Gender and Sexuality and African and African American Studies from Harvard University (2009). Emily’s research interests include black feminist and black queer theory, 19th and 20th century history of sexuality, and the history of slavery in the Atlantic world. Her current research focuses on the history of legalized sex work in New Orleans.
